MILTON
Old English 'middle farm', from its situation between BARTON(-ON-SEA) and CHEWTON. 'New Milton' grew up around the station on the L&SWR's Bournemouth branch and the company changed the station name from 'Milton' to 'New Milton' in the late 19th century, after Mrs Newhook's sub Post Office, leaving the original settlement to be called 'Old Milton'.
